What is Acupuncture and How Does It Work? Ancient Chinese belief is that life-energy circulates
throughout the body. If the energy is blocked, the system is disrupted leading to pain & illness.
Acupuncture helps restore normal functions by stimulating points to free the energy.

Dr. Greg uses acupuncture needles that are barely the width of a human hair. He only uses
disposable needles that are used once and discarded in accordance with medical bio-hazard
regulations. There are a few different precise methods by which Acupuncturists insert needles. Points
can be needled anywhere in the range of 15 degrees to 90 degrees relative to the skin surface,
depending on the treatment called for. In most cases, a sensation is felt by the patient. This
sensation, which is not pain, is called deqi (pronounced dah-chee).

Although scientists have no real answer to how acupuncture works there are a few prevailing theories.
One of the most popular theories states the perception of pain is controlled by a part of the nervous
system which regulates the impulse, which will later be interpreted as pain. This is called the "Gate"
and if hit with too many impulses it becomes overwhelmed and it closes. This prevents some impulses
from getting through. Other theories include the concepts that acupuncture:

Raises levels of triglycerides, specific hormones, white blood counts, gamma globulins, and anti-body levels.
Stimulates the secretions of endorphins.
Affects certain neurotransmitter levels (such as Seratonin and Noradrenaline).
Constricts or dilates blood vessels. This may be caused by the body's release of Vasodilaters (e.g. Histamine)
